2V AGM VRLA battery — sealed cells for UPS and control rooms

Where the room is air-conditioned, the loads are sharp and the ceiling is low — UPS halls, hospital backup, control and switchgear rooms — the 2V AGM cell earns its place: sealed, high-rate, rack-mounted, no watering round. Microtex builds 2V AGM cells up to 5,000 Ah — type-tested at CPRI to IS 15549 (1000 Ah cell), report number quoted in our documentation.

Where AGM is the right answer — and where it is not

In an AGM cell the electrolyte lives inside a glass-fibre mat pressed against the plates. The thin acid film and tight plate spacing give AGM its talent: delivering high current fast — exactly the shape of a UPS load. Sealed recombination means no watering, no acid handling, and cells that mount close, high and even horizontal.

The honest boundaries: AGM likes air-conditioned rooms and float duty with occasional discharge. For unmanned hot sites and deep daily cycling, gel serves longer — that comparison lives on the OPzV Gel page. For maximum verifiable life with trained maintenance, flooded OPzS remains the utility standard. We make all three; the duty picks the chemistry, not the brochure.

Pedigree beyond the lab: Microtex 2V VRLA cells held BSNL TSEC type approvals across 200 Ah to 5,000 Ah (2004–2015) — qualification under the telecom network’s own regime, among the most demanding battery approvals of that era in India. We cite it as history, precisely: proof the big cells have been built, tested and fielded, not merely listed.

Questions UPS engineers ask us

AGM or gel for my installation?

Air-conditioned room, sharp high-rate loads, float duty — AGM. Hot or unmanned site, deep regular cycling — gel. The two VRLA types share sealed convenience but age differently; we quote whichever your duty demands, and will say plainly when it is not the one you asked for.

What decides AGM life in a UPS room?

Temperature and float accuracy. Every degree above the design ambient shortens life — the air-conditioning is part of the battery system, not a comfort. And the float voltage must match the cell specification with temperature compensation; a UPS left on factory defaults is the commonest early killer we see.

Can the cells be mounted horizontally in racks?

Yes — sealed AGM construction permits horizontal racking, which is how dense UPS rooms use their height. State the rack arrangement in the enquiry so terminal orientation and spacing come correctly configured.

How do I size a bank for my UPS?

Send the DC bus voltage window, the load in kW, the autonomy in minutes, and the room temperature — UPS duty is sized on minutes at high rate, a different arithmetic from hours-long autonomy. The enquiry form reaches an engineer who replies the same working day.

When the mains drops, minutes matter. Specify cells tested for exactly that.
