Mining batteries — power for machines that work where air is rationed

Underground, a battery is not a component — it is the reason the machine is allowed to exist. No exhaust, no excuse. Microtex builds battery packs for underground mining vehicles and locomotives — the LIMITLESS range of vented lead-acid increased-safety traction battery packs — engineered in Bengaluru on European-class tubular plates, serving mines in India and Africa.

Why underground duty is different

FIG. 1 — LIMITLESS MINING POWER PACK, READY FOR UNDERGROUND DUTY

Everything on the surface forgives; the mine does not. The floor is never level, so the pack must hold its acid at angles. The machine shakes all shift, so every connection is built like structure, not wiring. The charging bay is ventilation-budgeted, so charging must finish clean, without needless gassing. And spillage is not housekeeping — tracking acid is a fire risk nobody underground will tolerate twice. These constraints are not features we advertise; they are the design brief we build from.

The electrochemistry underneath is our own tubular plate — chosen because deep daily cycling is exactly the duty it survives. The construction story is on the technology page; the mining-specific engineering — electrolyte density chosen for the mine’s real operating temperature, containment, charge profile — is what our engineers size per mine, not per catalogue.

Battery and charger, one system

A mining battery lives or dies by its charging bay, so we supply the system, not the box: packs with matched mining-duty chargers — profile-controlled, stratification-managed, with charge records the mine can audit. One supplier, one responsibility, no gap for a warranty argument to live in.

Questions mine engineers ask us

Can you replace the batteries in our existing underground fleet?

That is half our mining business: replacement packs engineered to the machine’s battery box and duty, often for fleets whose original supplier has lost interest. Send the machine type, the old pack’s nameplate photo and box dimensions — and the duty cycle if you have it — and engineering replies the same working day.

What certification do your mining batteries carry?

First, precision about what these are: vented lead-acid increased-safety traction battery packs — we do not describe them as flameproof, because that is a different protection concept, and blurring the two protects nobody. Certification itself depends on your country and mine classification, and we will not wave a certificate at a duty it does not cover. State the mine type and jurisdiction in your enquiry and we respond with the exact current certification position for that application — in writing.

Why lead-acid underground rather than lithium?

Underground, the safety case is the specification. Lead-acid’s failure modes are slow, visible and manageable with ventilation discipline — a century of mining practice is built around them. Newer chemistries bring energy density and also bring thermal-event risk into a place with rationed air. Where a mine weighs the trade, we make the engineering case openly, duty by duty.

How fast can you supply, and where do you serve?

Packs are engineered and built in Bengaluru and exported worldwide; Indian and African mines are our established ground. Timelines depend on pack engineering versus repeat supply — both are quoted with dates, and the charging commissioning support is part of the delivery, not an extra.

Tell us the machine, the mine and the shift. The pack is engineered from there.
